This August 7 at 20:30 hours at the Camp Nou we will be able to enjoy another year of the Joan Gamper Trophy, a friendly football tournament organized by F.C. Barcelona every year. On this occasion F.C. Barcelona will lock horns with the Brazilian side A. Chapecoense. The tickets for the Joan Gamper trophy are available from July 1 and the prices range from €25 to €89.
This tournament was started in the year 1966, thanks to Enric Llaudet’s initiative, the then president of the club. The name of the tournament is in honor of the club’s founder and five-time president, Hans Gamper. It is contested at the Camp Nou in the second half of August with the goal of introducing F.C. Barcelona’s squad to the public with an eye on the upcoming season.
The tournament format has undergone modifications over the years. Until 1966 it was a quadrangular tournament. That is to say, there were a couple of semifinals and the final, plus the third place play-off. However, since 1997, the club decided to bring down the tournament to a single face-off, owing to the huge number of pre-season matches. Another year down the line, Barça is working on its new signings, renewal of the contracts of first team’s key players, the name of the main sponsor and at the same time getting ready for the Gamper game, the traditional inauguration of the season at the Camp Nou.
The Camp Nou is a place where the spectacle is served from August to June: la Liga, Copa and the Champions League; a series of games that transcend the sport itself. A football spectacle shared with over 98,000 people in Europe’s biggest soccer stadium. Sheer magic to personally enjoy something that doesn’t end with the match, the pre-match atmosphere, the fan movement and the subsequent game allows any attendee to relish a lot more than the sport itself.
Barcelona’s nice traffic movement allows the fans to reach the Camp Nou with a lot of ease. Located in the emblematic Les Corts district, one of the many entry points is at the height of the Travessera de les Corts, 100, at just 10 minutes’ distance from the L3 – Les Corts metro station. For those who prefer to reach faster, it takes just 15 minutes from the center of the city. However, this option brings with itself the obligation to reach some time in advance in order to park, since the Camp Nou area saturates various hours before the game.
After a night as special as seeing the Joan Gamper Trophy live, one must have a plan to match in order to end the night on a special note.
